Recycling

Hurstbourne Tarrant Parish Council Recycling

The Parish Council is committed to improving the sustainability of the Parish and wider community.

We already have a glass recycling bank and an aluminium foil bin located at the Royal British Legion at Ibthorpe.

Test Valley Borough Council's kerbside collection service will take (from your brown bin):

  • Paper
  • Cardboard
  • Plastic bottles
  • Tins and cans
  • Aerosol cans

Please ensure they are clean and dry and not contained in plastic bags.

You can take the following items to your Local Recycling Centre:

  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Textiles
  • Cartons (including Tetra-pak)
  • Books and media
  • Plastic-lined paper cups and cartons

Check out TVBC's recycling information online.

Hurstbourne Tarrant Parish Council Recycling

We have been in contact with Vernham Dean's community recycling project.  They currently take the following items:

Biscuit & cake bar wrappers

Bread bags

Contact lenses

Dental products (toothpaste tubes & plastic toothbrushes)

Sweet/chocolate pouches

Crisp packets

pet food pouches

Pringle boxes

biscuit and snack wrappers

Ella's Kitchen babyfood pouches

Tassimo/L'Or/Kenco items (including T-discs and pods)

Please see the below flyers for full details of what, and what's NOT, accepted before arranging to take them to Vernham Dean.  Items should be cleaned and dried before leaving them in the recycling bin outside Upton Cottage, Vernham Dean (opposite The George pub).

These items are recycled via TerraCycle ... most of us don't realise that many more items other than those we put in the brown bin for collection, can actually be recycled from single-use plastics into multi-use items such as benches, decking, play equipment, planters, etc.  They also give money back to charity!

So what's stopping you?  Get yourself a crate or plastic box (recycled, or reused, of course!) for outside the back door, and start saving all those household items you've been throwing away until now.  And if you struggle to get to Vernham Dean when you've got a big enough load to justify the drive?  Then why not buddy up with a neighbour or two and take it in turns.
